Biography
Md. Abdul Latif Mahmud is an Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator in the
Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the World University of
Bangladesh (WUB). He also serves as Moderator of the WUB Tourism and
Hospitality Management Club, mentoring students and fostering their academic
and professional growth. Mr. Mahmud began his career at WUB in 2014 as a
Lecturer in the same department.
He
is currently pursuing an M.Phil. in Economics at Jahangirnagar University and
previously earned an MSS (with thesis) and a BSS (Honors) in Economics from
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet. Prior to
academia, he worked as a Researcher at Unnayan Onneshan (UO), focusing on trade
balance, debt and deficit, technological innovation, sustainable agriculture,
food security, tourism dynamics, and macroeconomic policy in Bangladesh.
Mr.
Mahmud has published research articles and book chapters on revenue collection,
public investment, monetary policy, industrial development, the power sector,
and tourism dynamics. He has presented papers at national and international
conferences and regularly contributes to leading newspapers such as The
Financial Express, New Age, and Daily Sun, offering insights
on economic policy, tourism opportunities, and development challenges.
His
consultancy portfolio includes projects with the Global March Against Child
Labor (Netherlands), ADRA Bangladesh, and the University Grants Commission
(UGC). He co-authored a policy brief for Bangladesh Nari Sramik Kendra (BNSK)
on protecting women migrant workers’ rights. He has also completed the USAID
Feed the Future Integrated Supply Chain Management Course and a Training of
Trainers program on trade and business-enabling environments.
Mr.
Mahmud’s research interests span fiscal and monetary policy, industrial and
international economics, power and banking sectors, sustainable agriculture,
smart tourism, digital transformation, and food security. He has engaged in
numerous workshops, trainings, and international conferences, delivering talks
on sustainable tourism and development issues.
Beyond
academia, he is an executive member of the SUST Economic Alumni Association (SUSTEAA).
In his personal life, he enjoys reading, traveling, and fishing—interests that
align with his passion for economics, tourism, and sustainability.
