WUB THM Department Welcomes Fall 2026 Freshers with a Focus on Smart Tourism and AI
The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM) at
World University of Bangladesh (WUB), in collaboration with the WUB THM Club,
organized a Freshers’ Reception for the Fall 2026 semester on Tuesday, October
6, at the WUB THM Lab, held under the theme “Navigating the Future: Smart
Tourism through Artificial Intelligence.” The event highlighted the growing
role of artificial intelligence and digital innovation in shaping the future of
the global tourism and hospitality industry.
The formal proceedings commenced at 11:00 AM with the national
anthem, followed by a warm welcome address by Md. Abdul Latif Mahmud, Assistant
Professor and Academic Coordinator, Department of THM. Welcoming the newly
admitted students, he emphasized the importance of academic excellence,
professional competence, continuous learning, and adaptability. He encouraged
the freshers to make the most of their university years by developing the
knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry driven by
technological advancement.
The event was graced by the presence of distinguished university
leaders, including Professor Zaki Imam, Registrar; Professor M. Mokbul Hossain,
Controller of Examinations; and Ahsan Touhid Milton, Joint Registrar. In their
remarks, the distinguished guests underscored the importance of higher
education, technological literacy, innovation, and academic discipline. They
encouraged students to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills and
remain adaptable in response to the ongoing digital transformation of the
tourism and hospitality sector.
The program was also attended by faculty members of the THM
Department, including Senior Lecturer Pulak Sarker and Lecturers Sara Murtaza,
Umme Honey Nidhi, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, and Istiaq Mohammad Shuvo, along with
other faculty members.
Following the formal session, a vibrant cultural program
featuring performances by both freshers and senior students added a festive atmosphere
to the occasion. The performances fostered interaction and engagement among
students, faculty members, and university leadership, creating a welcoming
environment for the newly admitted students.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Professor
Muhammad Nasimul Azim, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests,
faculty members, organizers, performers, and students for their valuable
contributions to the successful organization of the program.
With the participation of approximately 200 students, the
Freshers’ Reception successfully welcomed the Fall 2026 cohort into the
academic and extracurricular community of WUB. The event also reflected the
Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management’s commitment to equipping
students with the knowledge, skills, and innovative mindset required to become
future leaders in a technology-driven tourism and hospitality industry.
